The meme that read my mind
Just as earlier this week I was thinking back on all the books that have had some significance in my life and thinking I should compile a list . . .
List 15 books you've read that will always stick with you -- Don't take too long to think about it. The first 15 you can recall in 15 minutes.
1. The Umbrella Day - Nancy Evans Cooney and Melissa Bay Mathis
2. The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett
3. The Babysitters Club series - Ann M. Martin
4. Anne of Green Gables and sequels - L.M. Montgomery
5. The Giver - Lois Lowry
6. Animorphs series - K.A. Applegate
7. His Dark Materials trilogy - Philip Pullman
8. Dragonflight - Anne McCaffrey
9. Sabriel - Garth Nix
10. Harry Potter and the * - J.K. Rowling
11. Enchantress from the Stars - Sylvia Louise Engdahl
12. The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger
13. First They Killed My Father - Loung Ung
14. A Certain Slant of Light - Laura Whitcomb
15. Let the Right One In - John Ajvide Lindqvist
RANDOM NOTES:
- There are SO MANYYYY other books that could have been on this list. So. Hard.
- Like everyone else, I cheated and listed some series as one "book."
- I took some liberties with the spontaneity of the meme and put the list in (roughly) chronological order after I had my fifteen. That's because I realized how much of it is "OMG MY CHILDHOOD." To be specific, numbers 1-6 are books I first read in elementary school, 7-9 are middle school, 10-12 high school, 13 college, 14-15 post-college. H-hahaha.
- Number of female authors on this list: 11 (+ 1 illustrator). Number of male authors: 4 (+ 1 illustrator, because Graham Rust's illustrations in my copy of The Secret Garden definitely added to my love and remembrance of the story).
- I happened to watch the Nostalgia Chick's review of the Babysitters Club movie today. The first few minutes nail the series so well, and also summarize my excuse for why it's on the list. Don't judge me.
